Here you will, eventually, find hints and tips that people and myself have provided on how to save money, to how to stop sand from getting into your detector. Regular visits to this website and this page will help you get more from your hobby. I'll start with; Batteries. Keep your batteries in the fridge when not in use, and they'll last a WHOLE lot longer, then, BEFORE you go detecting, put them on a warm radiator for about an hour to give them a little "kick" back to life. Insect Bites and Stings?? Go to your local Chemists and buy some "Brewers Yeast" tablets, take THREE tablets, three times per day ( 3 with each meal) throughout the summer. DO NOT CHEW, unless you like the very strong taste of yeast. The yeast makes your skin smell unbearable to mosquitoes, gnats, midges etc, and you won't be bitten to death when hunting on a hot summers day. You might also find that you fell a lot better too, with more energy, as yeast contains Vitamin B complex which helps your body. For best effect, you MUST take for at least two weeks before the insects will be fully repelled. Mud sticking to your Search Head. & Wellies? Buy a large can of WD40 from your local motor shop, and, on a CLEAN search head, spray top and bottom liberally until it is dripping off. Now mud will simply rinse off with no effort at all. You can do this to the soles of your wellies too, then no mud will stick to them either. DANGER!! IF you spray your wellies with WD40, DO NOT walk on WET tarmac or WET concrete, you WILL slip and most likely break a leg, or worse! ONLY spray them if you are walking on SOIL/ SAND ONLY. Be aware that WD40 can be removed using ordinary washing-up detergent. DO NOT wash your wellies in streams or any where any animals may drink the water after.
